Of note, Oxford Academy is a six year competitive college prep school administered by the AUHSD that begins with 7th grade. It It is ranked 2nd in the nation by US World News and Report. Students are admitted by examination mostly in their 6th grade from the entire Anaheim Union High School District. Children need to be top scorers in the California Standards Exams for their grade level. They can get into Oxford as 7th, 8th, and 9th graders but it is the easiest to get in as 7th graders since Oxford admits approximately 200 7th graders where as only 10-15 or so are accepted into 8th and 9th grades.
While Cypress High School is a high performing school in itself, Oxford Academy, a singularly college prep oriented school, was ranked among the top 4 high schools in the nation by US World News & Reports.
Not every kid living in the district can attend Oxford Academy. Entrance to Oxford Academy is by competitive exam. The highest scoring students are drawn equally from all the elementary feeder schools in not only Cypress but also from all neighboring cities served by the AUHSD. The best time to enter is from 6th grade when they pick their entire 7th grade class (200 students in 2009).
Students may enter Oxford by examination for the 8th and 9th grades on a space available basis. Spaces become available only when kids have to either move out or drop out. Only about 10-15 openings or even less may be available for 8th and 9th grade enrollment. So, if you want to send your kids to Oxford, have them take the examination in 6th grade!
Note that there is no boundary for Oxford Academy. All students who qualify from the entire Anaheim Union High School District qualify, even if they live in Buena Park, Anaheim, or other AUHSD cities.
